"Deep Lounge Place is my year-round moving meditation in support of individuals, parents, educators, and education entrepreneurs. It is where I tap into the six senses and my forever love of Deep House and Lounge music in service of people who are raising children, educating families, and building safer spaces for learning and community-building to happen." YOUR DEEP LOUNGE GUIDE:

Maleka "M" is an equity-centered, spark-igniting community convener, organizer, and natural healer dedicated to investigating the indoctrination of practices that show up throughout parenting and learning approaches. She is the founder of the organization and framework Speak and Be Easy™ (SBE), an ubuntu-centered lighthouse and bridge connector that invites and nourishes individuals, groups, and organizations.

SBE Vibe Check Collective

The Vibe Check Collective (VCC) is composed of members of Speak and Be Easy (SBE) who represent a culturally diverse and multi-generational group of voices that reflect the core values of SBE and the communities it serves and aspires to serve. Each VCC member was nominated directly by the Spark Igniter of SBE for their wisdom, insight, and thought partnership in order to provide guidance, support, and opportunities for growth and learning within and beyond SBE.

The individual and collective wisdom of VCC members is the heartbeat of SBE. It is essential for its sustainability and for ensuring that SBE remains true to its values from the inside out, leveraging past successes.

OUR WISDOM KEEPERS

The DLP Wisdom Keepers represent a culturally diverse collective of voices that reflect SBE's core values and the communities it currently serves and desires to serve.

For the prosperity of DLP and its offerings, each Wisdom Keeper enriches us with a treasure trove of wisdom, insight, and thought partnership generously shared over the past four years. Their contributions guide, support, and foster opportunities for growth and learning within and beyond DLP.

The individual and collective wisdom of DLP Wisdom Keepers is the lifeblood of DLP, a vital element for its sustainability. It ensures that SBE not only talks the talk but also walks it from the inside out, leveraging past successes.

Kristina Cockle, they/she

To me, living a speak and be easy life means orienting our lives to embrace radical hope for a better world. We question how we have always done things, interrogate how our actions might be reinforcing systems of oppression, and work together to create spaces of collective liberation.

OUR MONTHLY PATH

WATCH IT!

DLP members can access a conversation between M. and their selected thought partner, along with an ongoing feedback form to share insights about that conversation.

INTERROGATE IT!

Matinee watchers are encouraged to participate in special prompts and exercises designed to stimulate their personal growth and insights.

NURTURE IT!

Matinee watchers are also invited to a support space that focuses on the emotions of grief, loss, not-enoughness, and feeling stuck.

CONNECT LIVE!

Every quarter, members who have watched at least one Matinee can gather to connect with other members, sharing what inspired them, how they engaged in the prompts and exercises, and any emerging ideas and thoughts.

Who this is for...

All are welcome; however, DLP’s focus on people (and groups) of the global majority (PGM) and LGBTQIA+ community members makes it an invaluable resource and community connector. This program stands in support of elevating the voices, experiences, and perspectives of underrepresented communities to be seen, honored, recognized, and supported.

To that end, Deep Lounge Place welcomes individuals and groups who represent thought leaders, space makers, spark-igniters, visionaries, and healers rooted in liberation and who connect and resonate with the following:

• Active Disruptors – from early to experienced journey stages

• Active Deschoolers (early to experienced)

• Appreciates multi-sensory, non-linear, and organic approaches to learning that go beyond window dressing

• Carry a strong appreciation for music, especially HOUSE, RnB, Soul, and Bossanova

• Understand and know that the journey is where the magic happens

• Appreciates and connects with nature as a source of understanding, growth, and awareness - spirituality

Common Inquiries

• How long is this program?

DLP is a year-round offering and includes access to the Roving Library until December 2024.

• Do I have to view every Matinee?

Matinees are pre-recorded 1:1 sessions between a Guest Thought Partner and M, which are released in weekly segments. At the end of the month, matinees are accompanied by supporting prompts, exercises, and invitations to deepen your experience. DLP will hold quarterly Live Happy Hours to connect and share what the Matinee has sparked for you.

• Can I join this program if I'm not a parent or professional educator?

Absolutely! If the DLP Core Invitations and Who is this for? sections noted above resonate with you; come on through!

• Are the Live Happy Hours recorded?

No. The DLP honors and acknowledges the layers that can show up through interrogating our indoctrinations and holds Live Happy Hours as a sacred space so "the revolution will not be televised."

• What if I can't attend the Happy Hours? Should I still join this program?

Live Happy Hours are essential to the DLP community, as they help to create and foster a sense of belonging and support for members. These events provide a real-time interaction and discussion forum, and we strongly encourage everyone to attend. Please note that Live Happy Hours are not recorded, making attendance all the more important.

Of course, we understand that life can be unpredictable, so if you are unable to attend a Live Happy Hour, that is perfectly understandable. We hope to see you at the next one!

• Do you offer refunds if I join and don't like the program?

If you discover that the DLP is not the right fit for you, we see it as a beautiful opportunity for self-discovery. It's an invitation for you to explore other pathways better suited to your flow, and we'll be here to support you, sans a refund.

• I love this format! Can I collaborate with M. to curate exclusive Matinees and Happy Hours for my group or organization?

Sure can! If you want to bring the DLP to your group or organization, please complete this Invitation to Collaborate form.

• I love this offering! Though I can't participate, is there a way for me to contribute a few dollars to support keeping DLP alive and well now and in the future?

Absolutely! Simply send M. an email at [email protected] with "DLP Donor" in the subject line. She will follow up with details. Donations at all levels are welcomed. Thank you.

• I'm curious about the Mourning Circles. Can you say more about them?

Sure. Akilah, one of our DLP co-conspirators, is an emerging bereavement educator and does grief tending in ways like this (The ILID Course). She will host similar, low-cost gatherings just for us here in DLP. One of our Wisdom Keepers, Zee, will also offer space for grief and loss, coming soon!
